                                                 DYSL Summer All-Star Program

WHO: DYSL fields summer teams for the 8U, 10U, 12U, and often for either 14U or 16U division. Each team is dependent upon getting qualified coaches to commit to leading the team. We select the manager/coaches via application, like our spring season teams.  As a Babe Ruth League affiliate, our coaches and players at the 8U, 10U, and 12U levels must enroll and play in the spring league season.

HOW: Tryouts for teams are held in August or September for the following summer season, at least for 10U and older teams. Therefore, players will need to register and play in that following spring season. Per our bylaws, the team must leave a minimum of two roster spots open to be filled as necessary in the spring of the season. The 8U team is usually formed in the spring.

WHAT: The managers (with league assistance) may try to set up a winter training/practice schedule at an indoor facility in preparation for the following spring/summer season. The teams will then resume outdoor practices in May/June. This is in addition to regular spring season team play.

WHEN: The teams play a combination of scrimmages with teams from other communities as well as anywhere from 3-6 summer tournaments held on weekends in late May-July. These are at the discretion of the manager and coaches running the team.

COST: Our goal is to not make this a cost prohibitive endeavor. Therefore, per our bylaws we have capped the cost/player at a maximum of $300. This will include a uniform and maybe other equipment, tournament fees, umpires, and other coasts. Managers are required to file a team budget with the league and make up for any budget shortfalls via targeted team fundraising.
